Iron deficiency anaemia can occur with a prevalence of up to 90%. It can significantly affect quality of life, both during periods of active disease or in remission. Intravenous ferric carboxymaltose probably leads to more people having resolution of IDA than intravenous iron sucrose, authors say. Oral ferric maltol may also lead to more patients having resolution than placebo, they say. No serious adverse events were specifically elicited with any of the treatments studied.`
