Five-Year Follow-up of First 11 Patients Undergoing Injection of Cultured Corneal Endothelial Cells for Corneal Endothelial Failure
To report the safety and efficacy of a novel cell injection therapy using cultured human corneal endothelial cells. The study examined patients who underwent surgery for corneal cancer. The study confirms the safety and efficacy of cultured hCEC injection therapy for up to 5 years after surgery. Corneal endothelial function was restored in 10 of the 11 eyes at 5 years. The mean visual acuity changed from 0.876 to 0.046 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution before surgery.
